Teams come to Camden Maine from all over the world. The famous Camden chute is: 400 feet (120 m) long, 70 feet (21 m) in elevation, and speeds up to 40 miles per hour (64 km/h) are attained. The run-out is on to frozen Hosmers’ pond. If there is clear ice on the pond, some sleds will go the entire way across, 0.25 miles (0.40 km).
Teams compete for best time for teams of 2, 3 and 4 people. Funny costumes and unique team names are a highlight of the competition. Fires and camping on the ice are common and unique winter activities at Toboggan Nationals. There are some vendors for food and winter items. There is usually a bonfire that you can warm up to. Lots of fun!!
