Primo Restaurant is a world Class restaurant in a restored victorian house. Many come to the Mid Coast of Maine just to go to Primo. The food at Primo is very fresh! Gardens and animals are all on the property. A reservation is needed. I highly recommend this restaurant. This restaurant is seasonal, so please call before going. Primo is approximately 9.4 miles, 16 minute drive from downtown Camden Maine.
I usually tell people to go to Primo for a special occasion. You will want to try lots of items on the menu and it will be pricey. This restaurant is very meat heavy and I do not recommend it for vegan or vegetarian guests. Melissa Kelly just won an award for the best chef in the NorthEast.
I love their new website – lots of great pictures.

This restaurant is a local favorite. You will need reservation in the summer time. The restaurant is small and few seats. Asian home cooked and street food are served at Long Grain. I recommend this restaurant to vegan and vegetarians. There are nice noodle, rice and salads to choose from. The reaturant does do take out. If you go and can’t get in, do take out and go back to your Bed and breakfast and eat leisurely in the dining room. I give this resturant 4 out of 5 stars.
31 Elm Street Camden Maine. An easy walk from Windward House B&B.

Jesse and I love Fresh Restaurant. This restaurant is an easy walk from the Camden Windward House Bed and Breakfast. The portions are very generous and the atmosphere is fun. On the weekends, in the summer, live music is in the dining room. I highly recommend this restaurant for vegetarians. Dishes like Pikilla, Lentil Bolo, vegetarian Gnochi and vegetarian Risotto are pleasant additions to the menu for vegetarians. There is a bar section, dining room and in the summer tables outside. http://www.freshcamden.com/thefood.html
This is a new restaurant in downtown Camden Maine, and we hope it succeeds.

We love Mr. Wat’s Restaurant. Mr. Wat’s is our fall back place when we do not feel like cooking. Mr. Wat’s has a delightful menu of maki rolls, noodle dishes and thai dishes. The place is clean and friendly. The location is outside town in nearby Rockport. Although this restaurant is on Rt. 1, you never hear any outside traffic. It is quiet and fun. The staff seem to be on a learning curve with the menu, so please be patient. This is a laid back atmosphere. If you are looking for fine dining look somewhere else. The food here is great and the wait is worth it. I sometimes recommend vegetarians that eat fish to go to this restaurant. There are some tofu dishes on the menu. 106 Commercial Street Rockport Maine. Lots of locals go here because the price is right, the location is out of the downtown and it is good.

“Petit plates in a relaxed fine dining atmosphere” — Jesse and I like this place. A short stroll from the Camden Windward House Bed and Breakfast. Local and seasonal ingredients. The menu is meat and cheese heavy, as most restaurants in Maine are. The atmosphere is delightful. The management decorated so beautifully. 20 Washington Street – Camden Maine. Alot of locals like this place because the atmoshphere is sophisticated like the local Natalie’s, but without the pricey menu of Natalie’s.

This lovely little restaurant is the second of three for Chef Brian Hill. Brian ownes Francine’s Bistro and SeaBright Pizza in the downtown of Camden Maine. Sheperd’s Pie is in Rockport, only about 2 miles from our bed and breakfast. I like this place because the menu is fancy pub food. I love the ribs and fried chicken, Jes loves the hamburger. You will see lots of locals here. The bar is great and the view from the back of the restaurant over Rockport Harbor is perfect. The kitchen is open so you can watch the cooks at work – the kids like it, better than tv. Here is a link to their facebook page and menu. This restaurant is along the “most Beautiful Walk in the World” route. We cautiously recommended Shepard’s Pie. When the food is good, it is very very good, but sometimes it falls short of perfect. Not sure why there is no consistency here. http://www.facebook.com/#!/notes/shepherds-pie/our-menu/156595567723216
The name of the restaurant is not for the dish Shepard’s Pie (which is on the menu) but because the buikding the restaurant is in is the Shepard Building, look at the outside of the building and you will see the name Shepard on it.

The Waterfront Restaurant is a wonderful casual restaurant in downtown Camden Maine. I enjoy sitting on the deck looking for harbor seals while I am at the Waterfront Restaurant. The restaurant is big, a better chance of getting a seat during the high season. The food is good, it is not gourmet, but casual. I enoy the hamburgers (they use Aldermere Farm Beef!) and the salads. Boiled Lobster is also done well here. There is a nice big bar inside with televisions if you just want to have a cocktail or watch the game. Alot of locals hang out at Waterfront. This place is not organic or green, but the owner is very nice and contributes to the community. During the sumer and fall months, I only order from the bar menu, the prices are better.

For the best lobster roll in Camden, go to the Camden Deli. They have home baked deserts, great deli sandwiches, and home made soups and chowder, all served in a comfortable atmosphere with a great view of the harbor. They have lounge seating upstairs and serve cold draft beer. Upstairs there is a wonderful outside deck where you can sit and enjoy a panoramic view of Camden Harbor. The Camden Deli is a local favorite. The views from downstairs and upstairs are spectacular in any season. The deli uses Boars Head meats in its sandwiches. The sandwiches have names honoring the local boats and attractions. If you plan on enoying a picnic in the Camden Hills State Park, stop by the Camden Deli first for sandwiches, you won’t be disappointed. Great to take a sandwich out with you on a boat or on a hike. http://www.camdendeli.com/

Opening for the 2013 Season in April, this fantastic restaurant on the water, Atlantica Seafood Bistro, is one of our favorites. Chef owned with great attention to detail. Ken and Del (Owners) have a new bistro menu in addition to their usual dinner menu and both options are great. Lobster stew, fresh seafood entrees and the lobster mashed potatoes are really terrific. Atlantica has an upstairs room and a nice deck on the water. It is comfortable and tastefully decorated. Service is impeccable.
Atlantica is a wonderful Restaurant right on the waters edge. I have seen the menu change from year to year, Ken the chef, is a master of giving diners what they want. Innkeepers recommend that this be one of your nightly dinners while in Camden. You may need reservations, which the Innkeeper would be more than happy to make for you, and if you are making a reservation , try to get a seating on the deck outside.

Francine’s is a popular little Bistro. You need reservations for this restaurant during the Summer. Make a reservation when you book your room at Windward House, the Innkeeper can make it for you at the time of reservation if you wish. This restaurant is a local favorite. It is off the main road. Brian Hill (the owner) is a popular chef in the midcoast. You can sit at the bar without a resevation and is a nice alternative if you cannot get a reservation. Jesse and I personally not fond of this restaurant because the quality of the food is not consistent. The flavors are very rich. The restaurant has been in the community for a long time and locals have an affinity for it.

Elm Street Grill is a good family restaurant that serves traditional menu items and good pizza. The restaurant is not in the downtown of Camden but in the Ceder Crest Inn on Rt 1. It is not far from the downtown and is a local favorite, the price is right and the salad bar is good. The Band All That Jazz plays on the weekends at the Grill and is alot of fun to see. The group can play almost any song you ask them. Pizza here is good quality.

Everyone ends up at Cappy’s. Cappy’s is a fun little pub in the downtown of Camden Maine. The food is good and the beer is cold. Cappy’s has a fun pub upstairs that not many people know about, it is the Crows Nest. It is a fun place to bring the wedding party back to when the wedding venue closes.

A wonderful Restuarant in the Mountains. The food and service are excellent. WIndward House recommends Youngtown Restaurant for special occasions. Definately should be on your list when in town. Near the Cellardoor WInery and makes for a wonderful afternoon.
MaryAnn and Marcel are long time residents of the Midcoast. They are a local favorite.
Please post a comment is you agree or disagree with my review.

There are so many wonderful choices for dining in Camden Maine. While many seasoned travelers have come to expect a plethora of mediocre establishments that tourist activity seems to breed, not so of Camden. For a town of only about five thousand year round inhabitants, it has a surprising number of really great restaurants, with honest to goodness chefs of renoun. Chefs in this area are known internationally and many have been honored by prestigous awards and more than that, they make great creative food from the local fare. Restaurants such as Primo, Natalie’s. Francine’s, Atlantica, Ephemere, Prism are excellent choices for dinner. But which ones have harbor views?
